SMOSH WL welcomes Greg Phillips as Head Coach for Women’s Footy in 2019
In a bold move by the club, we have approached Greg Phillips to be our inaugural Women’s Senior Footy coach for 2019.
Greg, 59, lined up in 343 SANFL games with Port and 84 VFL matches with Collingwood.
Greg’s daughter, Crows AFLW premiership star and ex-WNBA basketballer Erin Phillips, played football at SMOSH as a junior, and has already lorded her dad’s move to SMOSH.
Although he has never coached women, Greg said he was “ready for the challenge of coaching women”.
The club looks forward to working with Greg. The women who have signed for Smosh in 2019 so far are super exciting to be coached by him.
Training will commence November 12 when Greg returns from the USA after visiting Erin.
The club is excited about the new team and warmly welcome all women signing with Smosh to our club. Greg was officially introduced to the Senior and Junior club management a few weeks ago and Chairman Paul Cutler is pleased with the appointment. The women’s program will be jointly managed by the Junior and Senior club to enable smooth transitions for girls to move into senior footy.
If you, or someone you know, wants to try out women’s footy, please enquire with the club.
