Our Heritage Our Strength

Last weekend, we had the honour of stepping back in time, immersing ourselves in the rich history of West Adelaide’s football scene. The Saint Michael’s Old Scholar’s, Hindmarsh, and West Lakes football clubs, renowned for their storied past, brought together a tapestry of tradition, community, and sporting camaraderie. The reunion was a momentous occasion, where we paid tribute to our remarkable journey and honoured the dogged spirit of those who laid the foundation for our beloved club.

Decades ago, as Adelaide experienced rapid expansion, our football clubs emerged as beacons of recreation and camaraderie. The dedicated community members toiled throughout the week, pouring their hearts into expanding the community, and come the weekend, the football fields buzzed with exhilarating games. These clubs, including Semaphore Park and St. Saviors, became more than mere playing fields; they embodied the very essence of togetherness, resilience, and the pursuit of a common goal. Our rich history was built upon the unwavering spirit of these hardworking individuals.

Institutions Built on Community and Values: The Saint Michael’s Old Scholar’s, Hindmarsh, and West Lakes Football Clubs epitomised the core values of community and unity. They were more than just clubs; they were vibrant communities where friendships were formed and support abounded. The colours proudly worn on our jerseys represented not only victories on the field but the shared passion and dedication of our members. The legacy of these clubs was built upon the strong bonds and shared values that have united us throughout the years.

A Legacy of Inclusivity and Growth: Over time, the S.M.O.S.H. West Lakes FC evolved into an institution that catered to players of all ages and genders. From the early days of AusKick to the establishment of boys, girls, men’s, and women’s teams, our commitment to fostering a love for the game knew no bounds. Additionally, we were proud to host the West Brumby’s Masters, allowing experienced players to continue their passion for football. This expansive legacy was the result of countless individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that our club flourished with proper equipment, funding, management, coordination, and communication.

Celebrating Milestones: A Reunion to Remember: Last weekend, we came together to commemorate four unforgettable Grand Final victories from 1993, 2003, and 2013. The event was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, as those who were part of these momentous events shared stories, laughter, and cherished memories with fellow community members around the bar. The reunion became a celebration of our longevity and success, encapsulating the enduring spirit of our football club.

A Weekend of Festivities: The festivities commenced on Friday night, with junior matches igniting the excitement. The air was filled with the aroma of a delightful curry food truck, satisfying the appetites of all who attended. Saturday saw the Cs kick off the day’s events, setting the stage for the main event. The A’s proudly donned the 2023 Heritage Guernsey, a symbol of our enduring traditions. Throughout the weekend, nostalgia, camaraderie, and a shared love for the game permeated the air, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.
